My story begins with how my husband and I met. I actually met his mother before I ever even knew about him. At that time in my life I was going through some tough things and she helped me when no one else would. One day when I was visiting her, my now husband had called. Unexpectedly, my now mother in law handed me the phone and an unseen relationship began to unfold. For this reason I chose the phone charm (charm #1130) since it represents how we met.

At that time my husband was serving in the U.S. Army. For this I chose the tank (charm #1829). He has a tough exterior but inside is kind and gentle. After conversing on the phone for several months, we decided it was time to meet face to face, so I hopped on a plane and flew to North Carolina where my husband was stationed. I chose the N.Carolina charm (charm #3131) for this because this marks a moment in time I will never forget. Up until this point we had only seen pictures of one another. It was love at first sight. A day later we took a trip down to Florida and on the way we saw billboard signs advertising free fresh squeezed orange juice and we stopped at every orange juice stand along the way. I chose the Florida oranges charm (charm #4960) for this very memorable moment. We had a great time in Florida, visiting Daytona Beach and Orlando. It was here that we truly fell in love with one another and this is why I chose the heart w/rose charm (charm #6400). The two fit perfectly together just as we do.

Not long after I moved to North Carolina and we were married in July 2000. For this I chose the July charm (charm #3337) as this marked a new chapter in both our lives. While living in N.C. a tragic event occurred, September 11. At the time I was 9 months pregnant and my husband was still serving in the U.S. Army. He came home and told me that he was given orders to say goodbye to his family as they were preparing for war. I thought I would never see him again and that our son would be born without ever knowing his father. It was an incredibly scary and sad day and one I will never forget. For this memory I chose the world trade center charm (charm #3842), as I will never forget those lost on that tragic day. Luckily, he was able to be there when our son was born, one week later, and it was a very joyous day. For this I chose the teddy bear charm (charm #8189) as we call our first son our little buddy bear.

A few months later my husband re-entered civilian life and we moved back home to Colorado to establish a new life. Years later, I was rushed to the hospital due to a cyst that had ruptured and damaged my left ovary. I was bleeding severely internally and almost died. I chose the ambulance charm (charm #8246) for this very emergent day. During the wait for emergency surgery we learned that I was pregnant but that the baby may not survive the surgery. I stayed for a week in the hospital as they monitored mine and my unborn child's well being. The test results continued climb toward the positive and nine months later, after a very hard beginning into the pregnancy my second son was born. He was perfect and healthy to boot. I chose the monkey charm (charm #1267) for this because we call him our little monkey man even though he is my miracle baby.

This is my story and I would like to thank you for the opportunity to share it. It is very special and unique and being able to express it through special charms is a great way to cherish the memories.
